Walton Family Foundation
ADVISING A PREEMINENT FOUNDATION & STRENGTHENING COLLABORATIONS FOR HEALTHY OCEANS
-
In South America, the Walton Family Foundation has been focused on both policy and market innovations in an effort to provide foundational capacity for sustainable fisheries management. The long-term goal is to increase the availability of sustainably-harvested products while also driving consumer awareness and demand for sustainable seafood choices. The specific challenges are significant and wide-ranging, but at the core, the lack of frameworks, tools, and resources for good governance results in opaque and informal value chains and illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. This in turn threatens the economic and environmental future of important fisheries and the communities that depend on these resources.
