Local Investment Strategy #2: The People You Love
Last week I talked about how investing in yourself by paying off your credit cards was the single best local investment opportunity. It’s risk free, generates a 15-20% annual return, and ultimately saves you from Debtors’ Hell. This week I want to suggest that you do the same for the people you care about. Invest in your kids and friends by cutting up their credit cards as well. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander and all the other people who flock around you.
A Call to Redefine Profit
20 years ago, Council Fire was born out of a vision of organizations melding pursuit of financial profit with a purposeful drive to improve the lives of others and restore our environment. Convinced that unconceived alliances were needed and future successes would be measured against multiple bottom lines, this new kind of global change agency emerged. One of the founding members of the B-Corp movement, Council Fire remains at the forefront of this new approach to building long-term value for local, regional, national, and global communities.
Showing Up For Racial Justice
As 2020 starkly revealed, today’s world is one of complexities, inequities, and deep structural challenges. Political extremism, economic instability, growing wealth inequality, and severe climate change impacts are all compounding factors, but increasingly the world is understanding that racism sits at the center of virtually all of these issues. Regardless of what you most care about - climate change, public health, education, human rights - without progress on racial justice, we cannot progress on any other front.
Council Fire’s Carbon Footprint Reduction and Offsets

As part of our commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality, we are continuously working to reduce our carbon footprint.
B Corps Partnering to Address Climate Change Impacts
Over the past several years, the near and long-term impacts of climate change have come into sharp focus and it is clear that no business sector will be spared the negative consequences. This reality is front and center for Council Fire and the B Corp community as a whole as we work to build sustainable and equitable economic, environmental and social systems in the face of a rapidly changing climate.
