Ernesto P. Lado
Principal Consultant
After spending the first ten years of his career working as a marine and fisheries biologist, Erneso was drawn to developing sustainable policies to address what he was seeing in the field. Ultimately, Ernesto became a world-renowned oceans and fisheries policy expert driving towards finding solutions that respect people and the planet.
He joined the European Commission in 1986 in the Directorate-General for Fisheries and never looked back. Prior to joining Council Fire Ernesto held a series of increasingly senior roles. He was appointed Director for Policy Development and Coordination of the Directorate-General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs of the European Commission in 2009. He then focused on the reform of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy culminating in legislation that was adopted in 2013. Soon after, he published his comprehensive assessment of the Common Fisheries Policy in 2016. After three decades of developing policy, Ernesto retired from the European Commission and now brings unqualified expertise to the Council Fire team’s European efforts.
