Council Fire Welcomes Fisheries and Oceans Expert, Jill Tapley Stevenson

 

As part of its mission to employ the industry’s brightest minds, Council Fire is thrilled to welcome Jill Tapley Stevenson to its team of consultants to provide expertise in ocean conservation and biodiversity, climate change, fisheries, aquaculture, stakeholder engagement, and natural resources management. 

From a young age, Jill set her sights on the ocean. She grew up fishing offshore for tuna and marlins in her dad’s fishing boat outside of Ocean City, Maryland. Her fascination with fisheries and ocean work continued throughout her career in Federal and State governments and regional and local non-profits.

Jill earned her Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from Columbia University and holds a Master of Marine, Estuarine, Environmental Science from the University of Maryland. Jill offers rich professional experience from a breadth of organizations including: the National Aquarium, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service. 

Now, Jill joins Council Fire as a consultant based out of Wisconsin, to serve on the Oceans Team. “Council Fire offers a broad range of expertise. It’s not just policy or biology – it’s community impact, it’s social. It’s great to be surrounded by people who are thinking deeply about a lot of these issues facing the planet,” said Jill. 

Jill aligns with Council Fire’s earnest desire to do good in the world, particularly in the ocean sector. “We need to bring everyone together surrounding this topic. The ocean comprises so much of the planet and affects us all, whether you live in the desert, mountains, or on the coast. Council Fire is uniquely situated to help people navigate the ins and outs of these massive changes that will be taken on as a result of climate change. Council Fire is able to tackle large issues,” said Jill.
